As an interdisciplinary artist, I have worked in a variety of mediums: printing, painting, mixed medium, ceramics, and sculpture. Sculpture has dominated my expression primarily focused on our relationship to nature and each other. The emotional expressions of the of the human figure and profile is especially facilitating to me. This current political landscape has opened the door to the attic. A reaction to the discourse swirling around me has prompted a new set of drawings mimicking the eruptions of emotion. Still drawn to the figurative abstraction, I look to create an underlying statement in my characters, an interaction that communicated and connects with my audience as they scan the composition.
This has been a period of transition since returning to the United States after four years traveling throughout Asia. My broadened lens has expanded my appreciation for the power of the abstraction and the sultry of the human profile as it speaks visually in discourse. This exploration has birthed a new body of 2D and 3D compositions. The political arena continues to provide a rich palette filled with human emotional exchange . Words cyclone around us, broadcastings of mankind’s cruelty and kindness, cowardice and bravery. My hope is that my art will dance where words sometimes stumble.
